Accessing well-known video-sharing website YouTube is a piece of cake if we’re using a desktop. Simply fire up the browser and get into YouTube.com – that’s all there is. In order to make YouTube accessible just as easy on Windows Mobile-powered devices (include Nokia S60 smartphones), YouTube released the YouTube Mobile app for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile phones back in March, last year.
“Since then, the application was translated to 12 languages, installed on millions of devices around the world, and has been chosen as a Nokia Ovi Top App of 2009,” explained Product Manager, Andrey Doronichev.
The current release of the YouTube Mobile app is version 2.4 – it was rolled out last week. According to the development team, the app is designed to be the quickest way to locate and play a video hosted on YouTube through your smartphone. The focus has always been on creating this app start fast, help you locate a video in an express manner, and start playback just in a blink.
Version 2.4 presents handful new features:
* New Homescreen user interface – the UI has been optimized for larger screens.
* Added support for “My Account” – from now on if you add a video as one of your favorites on your PC, it will show up in “Favorites” when you launch the YouTube Mobile app. From the app you can view your favorites, subscriptions and playlists just like on your desktop computer.
* Query suggestions – the YouTube Mobile app throws suggestions your way when you type in stuff in the YouTube search box (just like you get while using YouTube on your desktop computer). This feature is especially useful for mobile users as it saves them from typing a long query – which can be a bother on devices where text input is difficult.
This app is available on the YouTube Help Center, If you would like to try the YouTube Mobile app, go to m.youtube.com/appin via your mobile device.
