Memory junkies out there should be glad to know that Samsung Electronics has started to mass produce 8GB DDR3 8GB DDR3 SoDIMMs (small outline dual inline memory modules) for laptops and workstations.

The 8GB DDR3 modules is using new technology that is touted to be able to provide 53 percent power savings compared to a pair of 4GB DDR3 modules, and up to 67 percent power saving over 1.8V DDR2 modules. This new modules are based on 40nm-class DDR3 DRAMs in a 1G x64 configuration which is running at 1,333MHz and using 1.5V of power.

Samsung has yet to reveal retail pricing for individual components. However the modules will be available as an option in Dell’s Precision M6500 mobile workstation in the near future. Right, Dell is the first computer manufacturer to adopt Samsung’s 8GB DDR3 SoDIMMs and will use them for its Precision M4500 mobile workstation which can use up to 32GB of memory. Wow, that’s so cool.
