Sony PS 3 video game console has just received a new firmware update, to be more precise is firmware update 3.50. The 3.50 Firmware update packs a bunch of new features include 3D Blu-ray playback, better grief reporting and improved integration for social network sites like Facebook. Unfortunately, it also blocks the use of unlicensed 3rd-party PlayStation 3 controllers.
Recent report said that a number of PS3 owners began to complain that their PlayStation 3 controller from certain third-party sources no longer function, and they were unable to use it.
Sony has just released a statement claims that they did the right thing. They said counterfeit or unlicensed third-party controllers are very dangerous. Since Sony can’t control the quality of these counterfeit or unlicensed devices, they have decided to disable its support via PS3 firmware update 3.50.
“SCEA advises consumers to be cautious when buying PlayStation 3 wireless controllers from uncertain sources as the quality, reliability and safety of counterfeit products is uncertain, and in some cases, may be dangerous. It is possible that some counterfeit product may ignite or explode, resulting in injury or damage to the user, your PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, or other property.”
Don’t be worry, only unlicensed third-party controllers which have been disabled by the latest firmware update (3.50). If you have a licensed controllers, you will not be affected by the update. Licensed controllers have proven to be safe for the user as they have passed an array of testing procedures conducted by Sony.
