Microsoft has just released today TrueColor Technology – designed to improve the color balance and exposure of webcam video even in poor lighting conditions. In support of its Technology, the company has also outed three new webcams, each of which make TrueColor tech.
“Color quality and brightness are critical aspects of video calls. Through our research we know that a large number of video calls are held in either low light conditions or uneven lighting, and these are challenging situations for any webcam and represent a common pain point for webcam users,” Daniel Anguiano, product marketing manager for Microsoft Hardware, explained. “Our engineers at Microsoft Hardware created TrueColor Technology to improve the video experience, combining software and firmware to help people look bright and natural in virtually any lighting situation.”
Trio new webcams are the LifeCam HD-5000 and HD-5001, purposed for desktop users, and the LifeCam HD-6000, designed for Notebooks; each of which supports 720p HD video recording and auto-focus.
The TrueColor technology uses software to adjust color balance depending on surrounding lighting, and face-tracking technology to properly control exposure so that the user’s face is clear rather than being washed out or obscure. The LifeCam HD-5000 is now available, this one retails for $49.95, and the HD-5001 catches up later this month, while the LifeCam HD-6000 planned will ship in May 2010 priced at $59.95.
