Microsoft along with famous social networking site Facebook already joined hands in a venture to develop an online document-sharing service that’s somewhat akin to Google Docs. What both companies have come up with is an app referred as Docs and a new site, Docs.com.
To share office docs for Facebook, all you need only fire up your browser, and go to Docs.com and login using Facebook Connect. The site went live on wednesday, at Facebook’s F8 conference. Please keep in mind that this project is still in Beta – this means there’s limit to how much user can use it.
Based on Ms Office 2010, Docs lets people to make, edit, and share Office documents with all their buddies or with the world if they’d rather to share them with everyone. Docs supports Word, Excel as well PowerPoint presentation documents. New documents the user creates can pop up in the news feed, akin to status updates and pictures do.
If you already made an Office document, you can upload it to from your computer to the web. You can then view, and modify the document no matter everywhere you are. And so do your friends, if you decide to share that document.
You can give thank to Microsoft’s FUSE (Future Social Experiences) labs for developing Docs for famous social networking facebook. The FUSE Team, around 4 months, succeed to take the Office 2010 Web Apps technology and create the Docs app for Facebook.
“The FUSE Labs mission is to explore a range of “Future Social Experiences”. In this exploration it’s our belief that we may increase the value of Office ‘docs’ by giving everyone the ability to seamlessly take their friends and connections with them from Facebook to docs.com. The fact that we’ve been able to adapt the Office 2010 “Web Apps” technology to work directly with Facebook truly speaks to the flexibility and power not just of the Facebook platform, but also of the Office system’s rich “contextual collaboration” capabilities,” commented FUSE General Manager, Lili Cheng.
