The long awaited iPhone 4.0 will officially be released to the public on Thursday (June 24th), so we have a couple more days to prepare. But we can now take benefit of the operating that comes to the device, as the iOS 4.0 (previously iPhone OS 4.0) has just released today. Apple already rolled out the iOS 4 update for both iPhone and iPod touch users.
The update is a free and is currently compatible with iPhone 3G device, iPhone 3GS device, and iPod touch device (2nd and 3 rd Generation). While iPad is planned to get the update later this year. Unfortunately, iPhone 3G and iPod touch owners are out of luck as they can’t taste the best feature in iOS 4, Multitasking. The feature could only work with the iPhone 3GS and 3rd-generation iPod touch.
If you’d like to switch to the new iOS 4, you can download the update from iTunes, to be more specific, iTunes 9.2. The size of the iOS 4 update is vary depending on what type of device you use.

The size of the update will vary depending on what kind of device you use—one Macworld contributor reported that the update for his iPhone 3GS was 378MB, while another editor’s iPhone 3G update was 292MB. The update requires iTunes 9.2, which Apple released last week.
