Apple Agreed to Replace first generation iPod nano in Japan

iPod nano

After about two years under pressure of pushing and interruption from the Japanese government, Apple has finally gave up, and agreeing to entirely replace any first-generation iPod nano music players for users in Japan whose devices have experienced an issue of overheating.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said that the device, sold between September 2005 to December 2006, there were 27 confirmed overheating cases due to recharging, and some of them resulting in minor burns.

Late last week, Apple Apple disclosed problems with an external (unnamed) battery supplier which provided the batteries that made some first generation iPod nanos to overheat or even burn. According to Apple, other iPod nano models are not affected by this issue.

So far, Apple offered to only replace iPod nano battery but now tells users to contact Apple support to get the whole unit replaced. Please take this as a sign of kindness from the Japanese government.
